ABOUT FAHARI BAZAAR
Fahari Bazaar is a one-stop marketplace showcasing beautiful handmade products by highly-skilled artisans from Tanzania. Product design, development, and custom orders are done in Chatham, New York.Founded in 2015 by Fahari Wambura, Fahari Bazaar was built on a commitment to beautiful, functional clothing using hand-dyed fabrics. We also source high quality handmade products like Iringa Baskets directly from the women who weave them — creating sustainable opportunities for skilled artisans in Tanzania.

Fahari says, "Where I come from, the women carry a heavier load. They nurture the young, care for the old, keep the family together. My mother did this for our family. She was a loving, kind and giving human being.
As an African woman, I understand the challenges these women face. I have witnessed their sacrifices and can relate to their struggle to make a living. My hope is that through this business, I can support them by creating sustainable opportunities — my way of saying I see their struggle, fulfilling my responsibility to them, and keeping my mother's spirit alive."

These highly skilled tailors have been making our clothes since the beginning. The fabrics we use are 100% cotton Kitenge, Kanga or Batiki fabrics sourced from women vendors at the Kitumbini fabric market in Dar es Salaam.
Having our clothes made in Tanzania creates high paying jobs for skilled tailors in a country where this occupation is often undervalued. Our goal is to open a Fahari Bazaar Workshop that will provide working space, quality training and high paying jobs for young women.
Product development and special orders are done by Fahari Wambura at the Fahari Bazaar shop in Chatham, New York.
ABOUT OUR FABRICS

Growing up, we never could afford clothing from stores. All our clothes were made by local tailors. Those memories — picking out fabric, contemplating designs, watching a dress come to life — are part of the inspiration for the Fahari Bazaar clothing line.
We use hand-dyed and hand-printed Batiki fabrics, working directly with the women who make them to ensure each print is a one-of-a-kind work of art. When we use Kanga and Kitenge fabrics, we source them locally in Tanzania to support the country's cotton industry and fabric makers. Our Kikoy is handwoven in Dar es Salaam by Waasiliasilia and Handmade From Tanzania.
